5:11pm
After hiking the Cliff Springs Trail I was officially off the clock but instead of heading home drove continued out the plateau for a Cape Royal sunset.
5:56pm
With over an hour to wait no problem filling the time chatting with visitors and taking photos. I was still in uniform.
6:00pm
About a hand full of serious photographers with tripods and the big guns cameras set up to document this miraculous event. And a few late wandering tourists hung out for the show.
6:12pm
Must remind myself to look the opposite way once in a while.
6:18pm
Better than any movie, the sky changes rapidly as the sun descends.
6:26pm
I felt a sense of connected excitement from the small group gathered for this once in a lifetime event.
6:39pm
While at the same time all was hushed, like the quiet maybe found in a church just before a sermon.
6:46pm
Rangers are paid in sunsets.

What a glorious sunset. How lucky you are to witness such beauty.
Sunny 🙂
Just beautiful…I love ALL sunsets.
I'd be willing to pay to work there! Those are stunning.
Your photographs are really very special. It must be a different world and totally unlike the canyons of DC or NY.
Thank you very much for visiting Pick a Peck of Pixels and for the comment you left me there. Now I want to invite you to stop and look at my Canon camera photographs. They are some of the best I can or have taken. My Canon Blog
It's just a huge blessing to catch a sunset like that and totally better than a movie.
Nothing calms and yet excites the body like a great sunset. We have some beauties out this way too. Some of the best I took was when I spent a summer in a Fire lookout tower in Southern Oregon. I could look west and see the sun sink into the Pacific Ocean. Every sunset is special. Good pay I'd say. MB
Beautiful sunset. You're so right, a Grand Canyon sunset (or sunrise) is indeed a miraculous event, ever time!
Very good blog, i like this pictures, i travel with your photos!
Congratulations from Portugal!
What a magical evening! Sometimes its fun to be imersed in nature like that with other people around. Even if you don't know anyone, you become a community during the time shared enjoying the nature around you. Beautiful photos!
Wonderful series of shots! Sunsets are always lovely, but to watch one over the canyon has to be extra special. Thanks for sharing a magical moment.
The beauty of immersing one's self in Nature for long periods of time shows how our surroundings change from moment to moment and how each moment is perceived completely differently if viewed from a different angle or different point of view. A sense of Newness brings life and lightness of being to each and every moment.
Beautiful photos.
Fantastic. You need to tweet: Rangers are paid in sunsets.
Beautiful shots. I always have the problem of stopping..it always seems to keep getting better and I keep on snapping away. I love the photo in your header.

Great shots. You are well paid in sunsets.
It must be awesome to share that glorious event with the small group and then to post it for everyone else to enjoy. I see why you didn't want to wait till SWF.
stop it! Now you know I have to go up there one evening just to see that. Wowza!
Terrific pictures, glad you posted them. I like how you put the time down. Amazing at the changes in the sky in minutes. Love the new picture on you blog page. I just started humming to myself. Just love the rocks, wind and water designs–white rock, red rock. I never tire of seeing them.
Spectacular!! I would work for sunsets too. 🙂
Amazing. Why is it once in a lifetime? Doesn't the sun set every day? Really gorgeous photos.
The pics are stunning. It must be breathtaking standing there and experiencing a sunset in your part of the world.
Those views are amazing!
Just catching up on your recent posts. Beautiful pictures! I am visiting the Grand Canyon around Oct 23 but we will be at the south rim. Couldn't fit in everything we wanted to see here and in California in a week and a half.(I would have liked to spend the entire time in this area)
Wow, what a wonderful series of shots!
Such a beautiful post of the gorgeous lands you wander through. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic sunset photos!
Yes, don't forget to look the other way too! Wonderful set. Love your comment that rangers are paid in sunsets.
